What’s the difference between the Print Edition and Digital Edition?

We wanted to give users the choice between a replica of the newspaper available at newsstands and an edition that has been formatted specifically for the iPad.
The Print Edition is a complete replica of that day’s newspaper, exactly as it was delivered to newsstands and home delivery subscribers. This includes features such as box scores, sports standings, weather maps, TV listings, puzzles, and more that are not available from the Post anywhere else online.

The Print Edition is published once a day, early in the morning, and does not get updated until the next day’s issue is available. It allows you to enjoy the full New York Post newspaper experience on your tablet.

The Digital Edition is “live,” continuously updated with breaking news and fresh articles, videos, photo galleries and more, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Stories get published as they happen, get updated as they develop, and are formatted to be easy to navigate and read on your tablet.

The Digital Edition features most of the content available in the Print Edition in slightly different form. For example, headlines and photos may be different; the story may continue to get updated; and it may feature additional multimedia content (videos, slideshows, social media embeds, additional images, inline galleries, etc.). The Digital Edition also includes hundreds of stories that do not appear in print.

How is the current app’s Digital Edition different from the previous version of the app’s Tablet Edition?

The current app’s Digital Edition is a live edition, updated all day, every day, with breaking news, new articles, updates to stories as they unfold, multimedia such as videos and photo galleries, and many more articles than appeared in print.

The previous app’s Tablet Edition was published only once a day. It was a reformatting of most of the content that appeared in the newspaper and in the Print Edition, with no updates, and only included stories that were published in print that morning.

Why did the tablet app change?

We rebuilt the app from scratch to ensure we had the most modern technology, strongest performance and greatest stability possible. This will also allow us to make updates to the app much more frequently.

In rebuilding the app, we also wanted to give users the option to switch between a replica edition of that morning’s paper and all of the live content that the New York Post publishes and updates throughout the day, formatted for your tablet.

How many days’ worth of issues are available in the app?

For the Print Edition, the previous 15 days’ worth of papers are available at any time—in addition to any older issues that you may have chosen to save. The Digital Edition does not have individual issues, but is instead continuously updated. It also includes access via search to years of archived content.

How do issues of the Print Edition download?

The Print Edition will auto-download each morning if the New York Post app is running in the background on your device, you have push notifications enabled for the New York Post app, and you have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. Otherwise, you can manually download by tapping on the issue’s cover in the library.

Please make sure you have push notifications turned on for the New York Post app for the Print Edition to auto-download.

Do I need a Wi-Fi or cellular connection to read the app?

For the Print Edition, once an issue has been downloaded, you do not need to be connected to read it.

For the Digital Edition, you will be able to read any cached content without a connection. To cache more recent content, be sure to open up the Digital Edition while you still have a connection and load the latest stories.

(To ensure the best app performance and to minimize data usage, not all images will download until you open an individual story while you have a connection.)

How do I change the size of the text?

For the Digital Edition, this can be controlled in the app settings under “Digital Edition Text Size.” In the Print Edition, you may pinch on a page to zoom in.

What is the difference between downloading and saving a Print Edition?

When you download an issue, it will automatically disappear after a certain number of days past publication, based on your settings (go to app settings > automatic content removal to control). If you save an issue, it will not be removed until you manually remove it, however old it may be.

How do I save an issue from the Print Edition?

To save a Print Edition, first download the edition from the print library and then tap the yellow Save button in the bottom-right corner. It will then stay on your device until you remove it.

How do I remove a downloaded Print Edition from my device?

On the “Available Issues” tab, tap the “Remove” button under the issue. This will clear it from your device. However, you will be able to redownload it for as long as it still appears in the “Available Issues” tab (15 days from publication.)

You can also adjust your settings to have issues automatically removed based on how old they are, under app settings > automatic content renewal.

How do I remove a saved Print Edition?

Go to the Saved Issues area of the Print library and tap on “Remove from Saved.”

If the issue is greater than 15 days old, it will automatically be removed from your tablet. You will not be able to download it again.

If the issue is fewer than 15 days old, it will remain on your device or be removed based on your setting for “Automatic Content Removal.” If it is removed, you will be able to download it again until it is over 15 days old.

How do I manage the number of downloaded issues that remain on device?

Downloaded issues are automatically removed from your device once it is more than 15 days old and no longer appears on the “Available Issues” tab, unless you manually saved it.

You can also manage the auto-removal of issues that are less than 15 days old by going to app settings > automatic content removal and updating your selection. This will automatically clear out an issue once it is older than whatever setting you selected.

Does the app work in landscape orientation? Can I rotate the app?

Yes, both the Print and Digital Editions work in landscape orientation.

What does Clear Cache under Settings do?

Clear Cache will remove any content off of your device, except for Print Editions that you have marked as saved. This includes any Print Editions that have been downloaded but were not saved, as well as article text and images in the Digital Edition.

Article text and images will reappear if you open the Digital Edition again while you have a connection.

With which versions of iOS is this app compatible?

The app is compatible with iOS 11 and above.

How Do I Update the IOS So That I Can Install the New App?

You can check to see if your device is eligible to update the iOS by going to Settings > General > Software Update. You will need to be on a strong and consistent internet connection to update the iOS. We recommend backing up your content before proceeding with the update and make sure your device is plugged in via the charger. Here is a link from Apple that explains how to properly update your iOS.

Once you have updated the iOS you will be able to install the new version of the iPad Edition App.

Can I use the app on more than one device? Can I share my subscription with someone else?

You may use the app on more than one device associated with the same Apple ID Account. So, for example, if you have an iPad at work and an iPad at home and you use the same Apple ID Account on both, you can access the New York Post app on both with the same subscription.

However, you cannot share the app with others using their own Apple ID Accounts, even if you have Family Sharing set up. This is because your subscription is an “in-app purchase,” and Apple doesn’t not allow in-app purchases to be shared across account IDs.

I have questions related to billing, my credit card or a refund.

How do I cancel my subscription?

  1. On your iPad, open the App Store application;
  2. Tap on your profile icon in the upper-right corner;
  3. Tap “Manage Subscriptions”;
  4. Tap on “New York Post,” and proceed to make the change as desired.

Whom do I contact for help with the app?

The best way to contact us with an issue is to go to app settings > report a technical problem, as this will give us additional diagnostic information to help us with your account. You may also contact customer support by emailing ipadhelp@nypost.com.

How do I update or recover my username or password?

There is no user account, name, or password specific to the New York Post app. The only account information that could be requested would be related to your Apple ID Account, and that request would not be directly from the New York Post app, but from Apple. The New York Post has no access to subscribers’ Apple ID Account information.
